Up-to-Date Information on Relocation to Belize

Up-to-Date Information on Relocation to Belize

There aren’t too many sites out there with comprehensive coverage of what life in Belize is like. For tourists, www.belizetourism.net was always a popular choice. Sadly, it seems to have been abandoned as most of the information on it is outdated.

There are some things on the Belize Report site, as BelizeTourism.net calls it, that are helpful and accurate, such as information about the weather, and suggested lists of things to pack.

There is also a basic map of Belize, which, although isn’t very detailed, it gives you an idea of the layout of the country, and basically where everything is found.

One of Belize's Best Spas – San Pedro Asian Garden Day Spa

One of Belize's Best Spas – San Pedro Asian Garden Day Spa

A report from a very relaxed Gringo in Belize.

As a frequent visitor to many Latin American countries, I have visited a great number of spas and had a decent number of not-so-decent massages. I haven’t been able to find just the right place that matches my needs… until now.

The Asian Garden Day Spa in San Pedro is hailed on many travel sites as being one of the best spa experiences vacationers to Belize have had, and this Gringo can verify, it lives up to its reputation.

Belize Real Estate Investment Opportunity

The thought of purchasing property anywhere in the world right now might raise a few eyebrows. Aren’t the markets doing poorly? Isn’t the world economy slipping? While that may be true many reputable sources agree that investing real estate in Belize makes sense. Why?

Property prices in Belize are still on the rise. Base prices are affordable, meaning there is still room for more growth.
According to the Boston Globe, Belize is easier for property investors and buyers than popular hot spots such as Panama and Costa Rica, due to the transparent buying process and English language use.
No restrictions are placed on foreign property purchasers in Belize.
Owners of real estate pay no capital gains or estate taxes,

The Gringo's Favorite Condiment

Sadly, at the current moment this Gringo is not in Belize. To keep me going while I am traveling around the rest of Central and South America (pausing here and there to work), I rely on Marie Sharp’s Hot Sauce. It may sound a little cliché, after all, it is the biggest name in hot sauce coming from Belize, but… it’s just so good, it’s impossible to resist.

Things all started in the 1980 when Marie Sharp was messing around in her kitchen, experimenting with Habanero peppers, fresh fruits, vegetables, and other spices grown locally. At the insistence of her friends and family, in 1981 a family business was born. The rest is history. The Sharps now have Read more

Retiring in Belize – What you need to know.

Belize offers a Qualified Retired Person Status for those wishing to retire in Belize. Despite it attracting a lot of attention, there are a number of requirements that can be a little bit tough to meet. Anyone over the age of 45 from anywhere in the world can apply for the program, and they can include their dependents.

The tough part comes when you factor in the income requirement of US$2000/month. If you can prove the income from investments or pensions the program is actually quite attractive. It offers official residency and tax-free entry of your household goods, a car, boat, and if you’ve got one, an airplane. Other tax exemptions are also available.

The Palace is the Place to Be

Belize isn’t exactly known for it’s casinos, but when the Gringo is visiting Ambergris Caye, a night out to the Palace Casino sometimes hits the spot. Although it is small, it is one of the first casinos that was built after the changing of Belizean laws in 1999. Located in San Pedro, and open from 7 pm to 12 am every day of the week except Wednesday, The Palace is a great place to enjoy an evening out.

Since it is a smaller establishment, The Palace only has a few live tables where you can play a game of blackjack and the maximum bet being is $10 US. It’s not exactly the place you come if you are looking Read more

Business is Booming

In recent years Belize has grown tremendously as a source of foreign investment. The International Bridge of Friendship connects Belize to its NAFTA neighbor, Mexico, facilitating the transportation of goods from this small Central American country to the rest of the world.

Belize, once a British colony, gained its independence in 1981. Still, its political, legal, economic and educational systems are all based on British models, and are therefore more familiar to investors from the U.S., U.K., and Canada. English is the official language and 90% of the workforce is literate, making Belize a powerful tool for production and development.

Ideally located just south of Mexico, Belize also serves as a gateway of sorts from the Caribbean Read more
