Rasta Pasta – Good Eats on Caye Caulker

So you’ve booked your Christmas vacation to Belize already, right? Now it’s time to start planning the itinerary, and what better place to start than with your belly? (This Gringo is always absolutely famished after flights; what can I say, travel is draining.) That is why I recommend making one of your first (and second or third stops) Rasta Pasta Rain forest Café.

Located on Front Street, just a short ways up from the Water Taxi pier, you can actually arrive at Rasta Pasta via the main calle or the beach. They’ve got about 10-12 outdoor Rasta_pastatables, indoor seating, and a good-sized bar. This is one of the most popular places for the 20-something crowd to hang out (who are most likely drawn in by the implications of its name, and turned into regulars by its tasty food and reasonable prices, which range from US $5- $12)

Last time I was there Steve was running the bar, under the watchful, but carefree eye of Shanti, the owner. Happy hour runs from 4-6; make sure you try Rasta Pasta’s ginger beer, which you can get mixed with rum (yum!).

I’ve always wanted to try their breakfasts (what is a “Reggae McMuffin”?) but have never managed to make it there in the morning. If you swing by, tell them the Gringo said hey, and let me know if the breakfasts are as good as the burritos.

I thought that Rasta Pasta had closed down?

  3. Really? I admit I haven’t been there for a couple of months, but I hadn’t heard they finally closed. I know they were up for sale… when did that happen? Any idea what is going to take their place?
